Columbus and Modern Art

On Wednesday morning, I started out at the bottom of La Rambla to get up close and personal with the Christopher Columbus Monument.  After taking a rickety and rather unsettling elevator up the monument, I was rewarded with a sweeping 360 view of Barcelona...pretty spectacular!  Interestingly, they say that Columbus is pointing toward the Americas...however he is clearly pointing to the Mediterranean Sea which is east and is not in the direction of the Americas!  Hmmmm.....


After that, I rambled up La Rambla to have a late breakfast at my favorite little restaurant in La Boqueria Market, El Quim.  My last stop of the day was at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art.  The building's modern structure is beautiful and interesting, although it does feel a bit out of place in the oldest part of the city.  The exhibits were quite interesting and piqued my curiosity many times over...
